Santhigiri Social Research Institute is established to conduct research in hitherto untouched areas such as the significance of karma (action) in the course of life and how to correct the karmadoshas (error in action) spiritually. The faculty of vision (darsanam) is also an area of research to understand that phenomenon scientifically. Research is focused on the teachings of Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru, i.e to the science related to the soul and its cosmic relation with human life and experiences. The research takes into consideration the genetic as well as karmic and other astral influences the human being is subjected to.

Santhigiri has opened a Research Centre for Ayurveda and Siddha at Uzhavoor in the ancestral home of late Sri.K.R.Narayanan, former President of India. Some of the objectives of this Research Institute are-

Formulate medicines for various diseases by rare combination of natural ingredients,
hitherto considered poisonous and untouched by science, received through spiritual
visions with the grace and blessings of Guru.

Propagate and promote Indigenous systems of medicines, particularly Ayurveda and Siddha.

Encourage cultivation of endangered species of medicinal plants.

Central Council for Research in Ayurveda & Siddha
The Government of India has set up a clinical research unit of Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha (CCRAS) in Santhigiri Siddha Medical College Hospital Complex at Thiruvananthapuram. For the convenience of effective functioning, the Clinical Research Institutes are attached with professional medical colleges. Santhigiri Siddha Medical College established in the year 2002 is the premier medical education institution in the age old system of Siddha in the State of Kerala. Therefore the Clinical Research Unit (Siddha) already functioning along with the Drug Research Unit (Ayurveda) at Poojappura was shifted to Santhigiri Siddha Medical College Campus w.e.f. 14-12-2005. The main research activity of this unit is in skin diseases, filariasis and other general ailments. All the local people can avail the OP services in this Unit free of cost.
